The 2017 Staff
Arthur and Angie Blank – On behalf of our entire family, Angie and I would like to extend a very warm welcome to Mountain Sky. This year marks the 19th consecutive summer that our family has spent at the ranch, and we look forward to getting to know you and making your time here a special experience. We also hope that you have a chance to meet and get to know some of our family members during your stay - this is a place where new friendships with our guests begin each and every year. We hope you will enjoy your time at Mountain Sky as much as we do. We feel strongly there is no better place to reconnect with nature and with the most important people in our lives.
Yancey Arterburn (General Manager) – I was raised in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, where my parents were co-owners and operators of several restaurants. I graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in finance. After graduation I decided to spend a summer in Big Sky, Montana. I met my wife Kelly at a ranch and soon figured out that guest ranching was a perfect career fit for me. Our son Baylor is twelve years old and he looks forward to dodgeball and Splashball all year long. We also have a daughter, Molly, who is ten. Molly is a horse lover so you may see her at the barn. As an outdoor enthusiast, I love all the recreational opportunities that Montana has to offer. I am so lucky to be able to share this enthusiasm with the folks who come here to experience the outdoors. I look forward to spending time with each one of you.
Abigail Romans (Prep Cook) – I'm excited to make my way back from the Midwestern tundra to my hometown, Livingston, for the summer. I will be starting my third year at Concordia College this August, and I'm hoping to spend as much time as I can hiking in the mountains or rock hunting in the Yellowstone before I return.
Adam Crum (Head Wrangler) – This is my 19th season at the ranch. My wife Jolene and I reside at the lower ranch with our five children, Makaila, Caleb, Natalia, Josiah and Ethan. I look forward to meeting all of you, as it will be my task to find you the perfect four-legged friend for the week!
Adam Stefanik (Assistant Head Housekeeper) – While it may be my fourth season, this year feels more like a second chapter in my Mountain Sky story. Growing up in Woodstock, CT, I branched what felt far out of my comfort zone to Arcadia University outside of Philly for college. As my time at Arcadia was winding down, I took a chance to branch remarkably further outside of my comfort zone and move to Montana. It was the best decision I ever made, and the last three seasons have given me a lifetime worth of memories with the guests and my coworkers. Most of my three years were spent with the teen program, and while I will miss that role dearly I am very excited to begin as the assistant housekeeping manager this season. While it will be a new challenge, I hope this role allows me to ultimately have even more guest interaction! Don't be shy if we pass each other on a trail, on the dance floor, at the bar, or if you catch me cleaning your toilet! I look forward to catching up with all my old friends and making many new ones.
Alyssa Florack (Guest Services) – Born in North Carolina and raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin, I grew up doing pretty much any and every outdoor activity you can think of, and I've found that my home is wherever the nearest mountains are. My adventure bug has only grown stronger over the last few years during my time at Boston College. I'm graduating this May with a degree in environmental studies and a concentration in political science after a few wonderful years of leading hikes out to the beautiful mountains of New Hampshire, exploring the Northeast. I've also been a member on the women's ultimate frisbee team (I promise it's a real sport!), so catch me around the ranch if you'd like to toss around the ol' flat-ball, chat about all things Green Bay Packers, or hear a few stories about my crazy nephews and niece. I'm so excited to kick off the next stage of life with you all out in Montana!
Amber Brasel (Wrangler) – Hey there folks! I am a native Coloradan, and grew up in a rural setting where my horse was one of the only sources of entertainment available. As such I have tried as many different equestrian sports as possible ranging from fox hunting and polo, to rodeo and reigned cow horse. I recently found a new passion for packing and outfitting while taking a class at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. Anyone familiar with Fort Collins also knows we enjoy great food and a good brew and I am no exception to that. I love the outdoors and will do just about anything that will get me outside, whether that means hiking, snowboarding, rugby or just about anything else. I'm always up for a new adventure and love learning new skills and hobbies. I can't wait to meet you all. See you on the trails!
Andrew Romans (Cook) – Howdy Folks! This will be my first season. I was born and raised in Livingston and am a third-generation Montanan. I love the mountains and spending time outdoors. I've spent the past six years working in New York City, but honestly can't wait to return home and join my brother – chef Jonathan Romans – in the kitchen. Hopefully we will be able to make your taste buds dance. If I'm not preparing your next meal, then you will most likely find me on the golf course or rafting down the Yellowstone. Cheers to a great summer!
Annie Grohovsky (Guest Services) – Hello! I am thrilled and honored to spend my first season as a part of the Mountain Sky team! Born and raised outside of Atlanta, Georgia I now attend the Georgia Institute of Technology (Go Jackets!). I will be graduating next year with a joint degree in economics and international affairs and a certificate in French. Having hiked throughout the Southeast and Northern Ireland, I look forward to exploring Montana! I am excited for the opportunities that await this season and I cannot wait to get to know all of you!
Austin Schmidt (Wrangler) – Hey y’all, this is my first year as a wrangler for Mountain Sky. I am originally from Monroe, Georgia and have just graduated from The University of Georgia with a degree in animal science. I was born and raised on our family farm and have worked livestock, roped, and trained barrel horses since I could reach the stirrups. When I am not in the saddle I enjoy hunting, fishing, and showing off my lack of dance moves. I can't wait to meet everyone and enjoy this season in at the ranch!
Becky Saunders (Reservations) – I’m excited to have entered my second season here at the ranch. I look forward to seeing our returning guests, as well as getting to know the new guests that I spoke with over the winter. Originally from western Pennsylvania, my husband and I have called Montana home for the past twelve years. Our 10-year-old son John keeps us entertained and busy. I hope you enjoy your vacation at this magical place as much as I enjoy working here.
Ben Keffer (Guest Services, Fall Season) – Greetings y’all! I’m thrilled to get started on what will be my first season at Mountain Sky. I’m currently in my fourth year at Georgia Tech studying civil engineering. While the library does command a lot of my time, I like to balance it out with running, backpacking, playing guitar, or simply exploring Atlanta. As fun as Atlanta is, I’m eager to ditch the city, join the crew at Mountain Sky, and meet all the wonderful people I’ve been hearing about!
Brittney Deale (Head Housekeeper) – I am very grateful that I get to call Mountain Sky my home for the fifth time. I was born and raised in Virginia. After graduating college in 2011, I decided to venture out West and give seasonal work a try, and I've been enjoying every minute ever since. Over the winter I finally decided to try and brave the cold and made the move to Bozeman. However, I am beyond excited that the warm summer months are upon us and I get to make my return to the ranch. You can find me having fun in the housekeeping department, floating the Yellowstone every chance I get, or enjoying a lively night in the saloon. Cheers!
Bryan Field (Cook) – I'm proud to be joining the Mountain Sky team this season. I can't wait to meet all my new coworkers. I'm from a small little city 30 miles west of Seattle called Port Orchard in the great Northwest. I've spent most my life hunting and fishing in the great outdoors. I was a merchant seaman for 14 years. I've been all over the world and seen many different cultures, but my passion is food! I love to cook and I love to eat, as you might find out when you meet me. I’m looking forward to a great season with a bunch of great people.
Cameron Middleton (Kids Program Manager) – I am extremely proud and excited to be returning for what will be my fifth season here at Mountain Sky! I look forward to meeting some new faces, catching up with some familiar ones, and sharing with you all the magic that keeps me coming back. After spending the winter as a “manny” in the Great White North, I couldn’t be more ready to get back to Montana. You’ll typically find me in questionably outrageous costumes, covered in mud or simply causing a ruckus with the kids. I live and breathe Texas football (the Longhorns of course), love good beer and coffee, and am always down for a yarn. Welcome on board, let’s make some memories.
Casey VanDusartz (Wrangler) – Hey there everyone! I am honored to be working my first post-graduation job here at Mountain Sky. I am a Midwestern at heart, born and raised in Wisconsin where I just graduated from the University of Wisconsin River Falls. I grew up riding horses and I couldn’t imagine my life without them and am very excited to share with you just how amazing they truly are. My love for horses isn’t the only thing bringing me to Montana though; I have a deep love for mountains as well. My favorite are the French and Swiss alps, but I am ready to have a new mountain landscape to wake up to and explore! If I am not at the corral I can often be found curled up with a good book, hiking, or practicing my French. I am very excited to begin the season with you, and can’t wait to see you on the trail.
Clare Edgar (Guest Services) – As we say in Texas, howdy! This will be my first summer working at Mountain Sky and I couldn’t be more excited! Originally from Austin, I study computer science at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee and harbor a passion for theatre, social justice and good coffee. Other hobbies include swimming, acapella and circus arts (yes, you read correctly!). Not only will this be my first time at Mountain Sky, but my first time in Montana. I cannot wait to share my time with you this summer and see what this grand adventure will offer!
Colton Motschenbacher (Guest Services) – Hello everyone, this will be my first summer at Mountain Sky. I currently attend Saint John’s University located in Collegeville, Minnesota. I am majoring in global business and minoring in communication. I have spent my last four summers working at a golf course near my home in Chaska, Minnesota. Since my first visit, I have dreamt about living in Montana, so this is a dream come true. I enjoy golfing, camping, having bonfires, taking photos, and watching the Minnesota Wild. I look forward to meeting you all, cheers!
Dan Johnson (Guest Services and Teen Program) – Hey everybody! I hail from the tiny towns of Georgetown, California and Craig, Alaska. I grew up working summers at a lodge and charter service in Alaska, and came back in the winters to ski all over the Lake Tahoe area. I’m borderline obsessed with rivers and mountains. I’m also very interested in youth development, with two bachelors degrees in education from the University of Nevada, Reno. This will be my first season at Mountain Sky, and it is shaping up to be a dream come true. I believe that showing the next generations the wonders of the outdoors has a profoundly positive impact on their present and future life. In the teen program, I’ll have the opportunity to explore this beautiful region of Montana with our teenage guests, and I couldn’t be more excited to get started!
Danny Branch (Wrangler and Ranch Hand) – Hey there everyone! As I head into my third year here at Mountain Sky, I am settling into my new role as the wise and wily veteran. I am a native-born Wyomingite but after time in the US Navy, school at the University of Wyoming and chasing saddle tramp jobs throughout the Rocky Mountains, I have found my new home in Montana. This summer, I am excited to spend as much time as I can down on the Yellowstone River floating or chasing a little white ball at the Rising Sun golf course. However, what I am the most excited for is spending lots of quality saddle time with all of you, both long time guests and friends and new ones.
Dave Perius (Golf Crew) – Greetings! I am so pleased to be working at a job that is also one of my passions in life – golf! My regular job is as a business teacher and boys and girls golf coach at nearby Gardiner High School. Our team has practiced at the Rising Sun Golf Course for the past four years, and I tell my players that we are fortunate to have the best practice facility in the state! I grew up in a farming community in Langdon, North Dakota and moved to Montana in 1984. I have been teaching at Gardiner since 1990. Montana is an awesome place to raise a family. You will find me working on the grounds crew at the golf course, or playing a quick round of golf. Enjoy your stay, and I hope to see you on the links!
Emily Fischer (Bar Manager) – Hey y'all! I am so excited to be spending my first summer with you out here in beautiful Montana! I grew up in coastal Georgia, and while I've had the opportunity to travel up and down the East Coast, this will be my first adventure out in the West! I love to camp and hike and I cannot wait to explore all that Montana and Yellowstone have to offer. I'm also looking forward to learning how to ride horses! In my free time I love to discover different craft beers, go mountain biking, or just kick back and relax to some old time country music. I look forward to meeting you all and making some memories that will last a lifetime!
Erika Nielsen (Kids Program Assistant Manager) – Hello everyone! Growing up in Reno, Nevada, but spending my summers camping along the Madison River near Bozeman, I developed a love of being outside. After completing my bachelors in mechanical engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno, I spent the past winter working and skiing at my home mountain in Tahoe. Deciding to return to the state where I spent my summers exploring, I am excited to be spending my first season with Mountain Sky. I hope to make Montana summers as memorable for your kids as they were for me. See you soon!
Erin Brackett (Dining Room Assistant Manager) – Hi, everyone! I am a Colorado girl, born and raised on the front range of the Rocky Mountains in Boulder. I graduated from the University of Colorado Denver this year and I’m so excited to be spending my first summer at Mountain Sky. I’ve been spending time in Montana since I was young and I can’t wait to come back. My father loves to fly fish and we would frequently go camping for a few weeks at a time in the Gallatin National Forest. Once a week my mom would take my brother and I to a hotel in Big Sky and give us bath if we were really filthy and then back out we went! He moved to Bozeman about five years ago so I’m also excited to spend the summer closer to him. I love animals, dogs and horses in particular. I’ve been riding since I was six, primarily hunter/jumper. I can’t wait to meet everyone and spend some time in Big Sky Country!
Evan Flowers (Guest Services) – Hello everybody! I was born and raised in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia and thus am a big fan of Arthur Blank’s teams, the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United. I reckon the Mountain Sky team won’t be much different and I can’t wait to begin my first season here and meet all of you! In my free time I enjoy anything that will keep me active. Whether that means running or hiking, soccer or basketball, fishing or shooting down range… I just love being outside. Once again, I sincerely look forward to meeting you and I can’t wait to make sure that you have the best experience possible!
Garrett Jones (Guest Services) – I am thrilled to be returning to Paradise Valley to work at Mountain Sky! This will be my tenth summer at the ranch, fourth on staff! I am from Newnan, Georgia and recently graduated from Auburn University this spring. I love everything outdoors and I am a sports fanatic. You will probably find me on the basketball court beating Luke Ambrose in a competitive game of "horse". Can't wait to meet y'all!
Garrett Olister (Wrangler) – Howdy y’all! I am a Cajun from Louisiana and this is my first season at Mountain Sky, and fifth season as a wrangler. I am a traveler, horseman, blacksmith, braider, and most importantly a cowboy in love with the cowboy culture. I grew up with horses and riding at breakneck speeds bareback, desires fueled by stories of the Plains Indians. Then stories of gauchos, vaqueros, and buckaroos made me start twirling a rope and riding in a saddle. I am always trying to fine tune my skills and share my knowledge with others. I’m excited for everything this summer brings! Laissez les bon temps rouler!
George Coogan (Guest Services) – After stunningly going undrafted in the 2017 NFL, MLB, and American Basketball Association drafts, I have elected to return for a fourth season of quasi-professional Splashball. That said, I could not be more grateful for the chance to make it out for another summer in Paradise Valley. Since my last summer on Big Creek Road, I have finished a masters in accountancy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Outside of the fast-paced world of Microsoft Excel, I love the outdoors, college football, and hanging out with family back in my hometown of Nashville, Tennessee. I look forward to seeing y’all this summer!
Grace Fioramonti-Gorchow (Guest Services) – Hi there! I was a guest at the ranch for a few years and am so excited to be returning after five years away. This fall I'll be entering my senior year at Haverford College just outside Philadelphia, where I play on the squash team and am majoring in psychology. I'm from Chicago and can't wait to be back in beautiful Montana and to meet you all!
Grace Nebel (Guest Services) – I am very eager to begin my journey at Mountain Sky for my very first season! I grew up in the small town of Dyersville, Iowa, home of the Field of Dreams movie site. I thoroughly enjoy spending time exploring the outdoors and taking in what God has created for us. I attend the University of Iowa working towards a double major in marketing and art. This season at Mountain Sky, I am looking forward to learning more about myself, meeting so many amazing people, and seeing what Montana has to offer! I am very excited to get to know you all!
Grace Wilkins (Wrangler) – Hello everyone! I am super excited and grateful for the opportunity to be spending my first summer as wrangler here at Mountain Sky! I am a native Montanan, as I was born and raised in Great Falls. I am currently a sophomore in the nursing program at Carroll College. I come from a ranching background, and horses have always been a passion of mine. I got my first horse when I was seven years old and my parents have not been able to get me off the back of one since! I am a barrel racer and a breakaway roper, but also have a huge passion for riding in the mountains! Growing up, I spent my summers in the backcountry of Montana on horseback with my family. When I’m not buried in a nursing textbook or on the back of a horse, I love to hunt and fish and enjoy all that Montana’s great outdoors has to offer! I cannot wait to share my love of horses and Montana with you!
Greg Pappert (Golf Crew) – I am a long-time resident of Livingston, MT who came to Mountain Sky to work on the golf course two seasons ago. I spend my winters working a Bridger Bowl Ski Resort and enjoy hunting and fly fishing. I look forward to seeing you all down at the golf course this season. Welcome to Montana!
Irene Barrera (Cook) – I’m excited for my eighth season in the kitchen! This summer, you’ll find me fishing (Texas-style) on nearby Big Creek, barbecuing with friends, trying to make friends with Bill (Ranch Cat Manager), and whistling Christmas tunes whenever I can. I’m looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones this season – the people are what make this place so special!
Jared Nordaas (Grounds & Maintenance) – This will be my eighth year working at Mountain Sky in the maintenance department. You will see me working on the sprinklers, testing the pool, restocking your firewood and mowing grass. I am originally from Minnesota and grew up on a farm with my family. On my off time I like to hike, camp, float the Yellowstone River and run up and down Big Creek Road.
JD Steffen (Wrangler) – I was born and raised in small town South Dakota. After one year of college, I began moving all over South Dakota, Nebraska and Wyoming, cowboyin’ on different ranches. I have since moved back to my hometown and started my own business: Hot Tamale Horsemanship, where I specialize in starting colts and correcting problem horses. If I'm not riding colts or workin’ cattle somewhere, you can find me practicing my big loop ranch roping! I'm looking forward to my first season at Mountain Sky!
Jessica Nelson (Assistant Pastry Chef) – Hello everyone. This will be my second season at Mountain Sky and I am so excited to start another great adventure. I graduated from Paul Smith’s College of the Adirondacks, with a degree in pastry arts and a minor in business. I have been working seasonal jobs since and traveling the country in the process. Some of the things I love to do are going on road trips, adventures, reading, listening to music, concerts, and spending time with family and friends.
Jodi Petersen (Accounting) – After seasons spent helping my husband Mike Petersen (Golf Superintendent) and son Taylor Petersen (Assistant Golf Superintendent) at Rising Sun Golf Course, and seasons spent working with the office team, I’m excited to return for my seventh season, in which I’ll be helping with accounting and golf.
John Doyle (Cook) – After a few years away, I’m looking forward to returning to Mountain Sky for my second season. I have had a passion for the culinary arts since I was young, and I am confident the knowledge and experience I will gain this summer will be invaluable. I have enjoyed living and working in the area, both in Paradise Valley and in Yellowstone National Park.
Jon Delks (Dining Room Manager) – Hey everybody! I originally hail from the great state of Indiana, graduating from Indiana University a few years ago. This will be my first year at Mountain Sky and I couldn't be more excited. To date I enjoy golfing, reading and Hoosier basketball, but nothing's really off the table. I've spent the last few years living in Germany and I'm ready for the next chapter in Montana. I look forward to sharing my memories with you and to earn the privilege to share in yours. Prost!
Jonathan Romans (Executive Chef) – I’m a Livingston, Montana native who has spent over two thirds of my life in restaurant kitchens. I completed my Le Cordon Blue externship here at the ranch back in 2000 and “just knew” then that my dream was to be the Chef at Mountain Sky Guest Ranch someday. I’ve spent the last 15 years in some of the top kitchens in Nashville and New York City, as well as traveling the globe to study food cultures. I like to spend my off time traveling and donating my time and expertise to helping local youth broaden their horizons in the hospitality industry.
Julian Rambo (Golf Crew) – This marks my fourth season at Mountain Sky and I couldn't be more excited to get things going. I’m excited to join the Rising Sun Golf Course crew this summer, and hope to see you down below as you enjoy a round on the course! If you need a hiking buddy around the ranch, someone to show you the spots in Yellowstone they don't tell you about, or want to talk pop music (boy bands get no respect), then I'm your guy. It's summer 2017 folks, so let's have fun and make this season legend!
Julie Tate (Assistant Head Wrangler) – Welcome or welcome back! I grew up on San Juan Island in northwest Washington State, but now Bozeman is my home base. Before Mountain Sky, I graduated from Pomona College in Southern California and after a brief stint of sitting at a desk in San Francisco, I hopped on the wrangling train. Come join me on the trail and see why I have yet to look back (this is year number six out here for me). I’m also a proud member of the Mountain Sky Guest Ranch Fund -- did you know that this ranch has given more than $4 million to non-profits that support local kids? I mean, just when you thought this place couldn't get any better, right?
Kelly Arterburn (Landscape and Interiors) – I grew up on a ranch outside of Absarokee, Montana. I spent my summers in the saddle working on our family horse and cattle ranch and O-mok-seeing. During college I got a summer job at a guest ranch in Big Sky and ended up liking it so much that I stayed on working and commuting to finish my degree. I graduated with a degree in horticulture and landscape design from Montana State University in Bozeman. I met my husband Yancey on my first day of work at Lone Mountain Ranch and we got married six years later at my parent’s ranch in Reed Point, Montana. We have two kids, Baylor (12) and Molly (10), a golden retriever named Riley and two roaming cats, Smokey and Grey Pony. We have been at Mountain Sky since 2007 and are blessed to be a part of the Mountain Sky family. Mountain Sky has a special place in our hearts as we continue to see how much it impacts the lives of our guests and staff as well as our local communities through the giving of the MSGR Fund.
Kelsey Tucker (Guest Services) – Hello All! The beautiful West has drawn me in once again for my third summer at Mountain Sky. Thinking about sunsets on Emigrant peak, horseback rides to the most incredible views, and the incredible people I've met and will meet throughout the summer have kept me going through the long Michigan winter. I just finished my first year as a fourth grade teacher in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Although I love teaching, having summers off to spend in Big Sky Country is definitely a perk of the job. I am looking forward to all of the memories that will be made this summer with all of you!
Kyle Richert (Land and Livestock Manager) – This is my first year working here at Mountain Sky so I am excited to meet all of you. I was born and raised just down the road in Big Timber, Montana. I went to college at Montana State University and then moved to Kremmling, Colorado and worked on a ranch for seven years. It’s always been my goal to end up back in Montana, and Mountain Sky offered me that opportunity. I love the Western lifestyle and I'm glad we can share it with you.
Lauren Chaisson (Reservations and Retail Manager) – Hello, all! I fell in love with Mountain Sky and Montana within days of arriving and I cannot wait to spend my fifth season in this magical place. I was born and raised on the seacoast of New Hampshire and graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2012. I am happiest when outdoors and can often be found floating the Yellowstone or frolicking through the stunning Montana wildflowers. I love live music, traveling, and a good cup of coffee. I look forward to all the adventures that are sure to come this season.
Luke Ambrose (Wrangler) – After two seasons as a wrangler at Mountain Sky, I am overjoyed to be heading up Big Creek Road again this summer and hanging out with all of the wonderful staff and guests that will do the same! I was born and raised in the small town of Berea, Kentucky. After four years at the University of Kentucky, I am a certified elementary teacher in both Kentucky and now Michigan. I cannot wait to be waking up before the sun and getting the horses ready, as well as riding through the pristine backwoods of Montana, talking about everything under the endless Montana sky. As Robert Duvall said in Lonesome Dove, “Ain’t nothing better than riding a fine horse through new country.” I look forward to taking you to familiar places, as well as new places all over the ranch this summer.
Maggie Hart (Guest Services) – I'm very excited to be heading back to the ranch for my third season. I came to Mountain Sky two years ago after graduating from University of Michigan, and Montana stole my heart. For an avid hiker and lover of mountains, Paradise Valley is truly paradise. After dabbling briefly with ventriloquism (harder than it looks!), I'm ready to get back to what I know, and to say hey to old friends and meet some new ones. Looking forward to seeing you this summer at Mountain Sky!
Margaret Pulver (Guest Services) – If you were to take the excitement from every kid in Disneyland and multiply that by ten, you would then get my excitement for my first summer at Mountain Sky! I grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan and am currently at Ball State University in Indiana, studying video production! I love going on adventures, making corny jokes, drinking tea and traveling. I’m looking forward to my first adventure out West and plan on making this summer one of my most memorable ones! So, whether you want to chat about the meaning of life or laugh about random jokes, I’m your girl! I can’t wait to meet you this summer!
Marianne Ostertag (Wrangler) – I'm extremely excited to spend my first season at Mountain Sky this year! I'm a Washington native and I grew up riding English in the Seattle area. I discovered a love for cattle, agriculture, and the cowboy way of life through my animal science degree at Colorado State University. After graduating in 2015, I worked as a pen rider at a feedlot in Northeastern Colorado. If you want to talk about beef, the environment, agriculture, or any cool science topics, come find me and don't be shy! I can't wait to explore the beautiful Montana country with all of you!
Marty Metzler IV (Guest Services and Bartender) – Hello All! This will be my first summer with Mountain Sky and I can’t even explain how excited I am to be a part of this wonderful team. I am from Green Bay, Wisconsin so as far as stereotypes go, yes I love cheese and The Green Bay Packers. I attended college at Purdue and in Madison, Wisconsin studying both Criminal Justice and Psychology. I’ve played multiple sports through my life with special interests in golf and soccer. I am looking forward to this season at Mountain Sky and can’t wait to meet many new people. Oh, and Go Pack Go.
Matthew Hannon (PM Sous Chef) – This will be my first summer at Mountain Sky, and I'm really looking forward to a season working alongside Chef Jonathan Romans once again. I'm originally from Ohio, and look forward to returning to Paradise Valley after spending a brief time in nearby Livingston. I enjoy camping, and the outdoors in general. Go Buckeyes!
Michelle Buono (Guest Services) – Coming from a management role in Connecticut, this beautiful ranch in rural Montana is going to be a new, exciting world I can’t wait to explore! Being immersed in nature has always been a passion of mine, with my favorite escape being the Catskills, just a few hours from home. I love hiking and exploring new places as much as I can. Perhaps being adopted from Romania has encouraged a gypsy sprit in me, where I value experiences that help us learn and grow together. This will be my first season at Mountain Sky and I can’t wait to meet everyone and start making memories! As much as I love country music, I’ve yet to master the two-step… any lessons would be welcome!
Mike Petersen (Golf Superintendent) – I came to the ranch to direct the construction of Rising Sun Golf Course. I have 20-plus years of experience in the golf business as a superintendent including the construction and maintenance of four Johnny Miller Design courses. My wife Jodi Petersen (Accounting) and son Taylor Petersen (Assistant Golf Superintendent) have also joined me here, and we all look forward to giving you a truly memorable golf experience during your visit to the ranch.
Mimi Yancey (Guest Services and Bartender) – This is my first summer at the ranch and I'm more than excited to be onboard! I am from Newnan, Georgia and I recently graduated from Auburn University. I enjoy being outdoors, exercise, and traveling, and anything music-related. If you need someone to join you on a hike or to talk concerts with, I'm your girl! Can't wait to meet y'all!
Miranda Protzen (Guest Services) – Hey there! Originally from the Bay Area, I first came to Montana two years ago. I am now so excited to be a part of your ranch experience during my first summer at Mountain Sky! I spend winters trenching my way through Bridger Bowl’s cold smoke on skis and am a volunteer ski patroller at Big Sky, both resorts near Bozeman. When it’s warm, hiking, slack-lining and climbing are my favorite! I am a fulltime student at Montana State University, studying wildlife ecology. I cannot imagine a better place to spend the summer; surrounded by amazing people, beautiful mountains, and incredible wildlife. I look forward to meeting you all and for the incredible experiences Mountain Sky has in store for us!
Morgan Pearson (Guest Services and Photographer) – My sixth season at Mountain Sky! How did that happen? Too much beauty: sights and people; I am eager for more! I love having my hands all over the ranch; I'll be cooking at Breakfast Ride for you on Tuesdays during the summer, maintaining our beautiful landscape, and covertly snapping your picture whenever I see that inevitable smile. I grew up in Stockton, Illinois, a tiny town in the northwestern part of the state. I went to school at NIU for a photography and ceramic degree, and during the summers I headed west and worked in Yellowstone National Park for a number of years. Needless to say, I did not (or could not) stray too far. In my free time, I look forward to some hiking, climbing, and sleeping somewhere under the stars. Can't wait to see you!
Nancy Norlander (Accounting) – I am looking forward to my tenth summer at Mountain Sky. I spend much of my time here making sense out of numbers and helping a bit with computers. I feel truly blessed to be able to work and live in such a beautiful place! My home is in Livingston, and I absolutely love it there. When I am not working, I enjoy singing, gardening, biking, hiking, cross country skiing, and spending time with family and friends.
Natalie Gilbert (Yoga and Guest Services) – I graduated from Christopher Newport University, where I played field hockey and lacrosse while earning my degree in communication studies and minoring in studio art. I’m a little nomadic in nature: after studying in Spain and exploring Europe, I since have traveled around eleven different countries in Southeast Asia. Some of the highlights from these past two years include volunteering at an elephant village in Thailand, receiving my open water diving certification, and living at an ashram in the Himalayas where I pursued one of my passions, yoga, and received my 200 hours teaching certificate. Since receiving my TTC in India I have lived and worked at a yoga center in the Bahamas as well as a yoga center in Quebec, Canada. This spring I traveled in Peru where I also received another 200 hour TTC. I am BEYOND excited to return to Mountain Sky! Of course, there's so much more to tell, so if you love talking about yoga, adventure or travel, or anything really - come find me. I'd be thrilled to chat and hear about your experiences too! I look forward to seeing all those familiar faces of families and friends, as well as meeting all the new-comers to the ranch! Can't wait to see you all in yoga class, on the ropes course, and on some awesome hikes!
Nicole Hayes (Guest Services) – Hey y’all! I am absolutely ecstatic to be able to call Mountain Sky my home for the third time! I was born and raised in the Midwest but I have an adventurous spirit that has carried me to numerous places in the U.S. and, most recently, across the pond to Spain. While the Spanish tapas, siestas, and sangria are all they’re cracked up to be, I’ve found myself longing for the wide-open spaces, mountain sunsets, and star filled skies of Montana. During your time at the ranch you can find me showing off my two left feet at dance night and swapping travel stories in the saloon. I look forward to sharing a summer filled with smiles, laughs, and memories with you all!
Olivia Lamphier (Cook) – This will be my first season working at Mountain Sky, and I couldn’t be more excited! I’m from a small farm in the Finger Lakes, New York, where I spend my days enjoying family, friends and the outdoors. I developed an interest in the West when I was younger and visited my sister in Colorado. A few years later, I took my love of cooking to a dude ranch in Wyoming, and it was then I knew I’d be hooked on the mountains and ranch life. I’m always up for an adventure, meeting new people, live music, hunting, traveling, baking, and drinking a good cup of coffee. Can’t wait to meet you all this summer and see the aspen leaves again!
Pam Comstock (Pastry Chef) – This is my 26th season at Mountain Sky, and I still love it. I am partly responsible for all the sweets, granola, breads and other treats you eat here. My assistant is Jessica Nelson, and we are excited to have her here. In the summer when I am not working, I love to hike, bike and garden. My husband Turk and I grow most of our own food. Join me on the “All Day Hike” on Thursday.
Pat McGraw (Golf Crew) – I joined the Mountain Sky team at the golf course in May, 2015. A recently retired banker, my wife and I had just moved to Montana from Wisconsin to enjoy our daughter and three growing grandsons in the Gardiner area. I hope you get a chance to enjoy the great golf during your stay.
Patrick Trembley (Activities Coordinator) – I’m looking forward to my sixth season here at the ranch. Originally from Minnesota, I’m lucky enough to spend most of my year at Mountain Sky while escaping the cold for some warmer weather (this winter I travelled to Ecuador and Mexico). I’ll be spending my weekends hiking and camping in the area and floating the Yellowstone. Let me know if you need someone to play tennis, golf, or billiards with, or to enjoy whatever is on tap in the saloon!
Rachel Conn (Guest Services) – Hi friends! This will be my first summer at Mountain Sky and I can’t wait to meet you all. I was born and raised in the great bluegrass state of Kentucky - known for its bourbon, horses, and the only people with enough sense to know that chicken ain’t chicken unless it’s fried. I love cooking, traveling, 90’s TV shows, and coffee in any form (unless it’s decaf). I hold a special place in my heart for adventure and thrill-seeking, and since graduating with a degree in hospitality management & tourism a few years ago, I’ve been lucky enough to work and travel my way to places that I never would have dreamed. I’ve spent a little over the past year in Germany and I am very much looking forward to a new and exciting experience with you in Big Sky Country!
Randy Venteicher (Facilities Manager) – This will be my 12th summer as facilities manager on the ranch. It has been fun and rewarding to make lasting improvements that are appreciated. I’m looking forward to seeing some new country this summer. You can, too.
RC Townsend (Assistant General Manager) – Raised in nearby Bozeman, my Mountain Sky career began in 2001 when I was a freshman at Gonzaga University (GO ZAGS). What started as a fun summer job eventually morphed into a career, and - sixteen seasons later - I’m still grateful every day to be part of such an incredible community. When I’m not out hiking, fly-fishing or floating the Yellowstone, you can find me and my wife Stacy soaking in the sights and sounds of Bozeman from the front porch of our fixer-upper.
Rob Strauch (AM Sous Chef) – This will be my fourth summer at Mountain Sky, and I am nothing short of ecstatic to return. A history major from the East Coast, I've found myself cooking out West. I love to hike, fish, and go birding. I look forward to seeing you around!
Ryan McInerney (Grounds & Maintenance) – Hello all! Born and raised in this beautiful state, I grew up in Great Falls but call Bozeman home now. Montana is in my blood and the mountains and rivers here are my playground. I am an avid hunter and fisherman, and I enjoy camping, backpacking, and riding horses. This will be my third summer at Mountain Sky, and I am very excited for this adventure and to meet all of you!
Ryan Serbin (Guest Services) – I was raised in Indiana, but I just spent the last four years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison studying biomedical engineering. Coming fresh off graduation, I’ll be taking a year away from education before heading back to attend medical school Fall 2018 (fingers crossed!). I absolutely love the Midwest, but I’m thrilled to be out in Montana for the rest of the year working in one of the most spectacular areas of our country. Most of my hobbies involve being outdoors (mountain biking, hiking, running, etc.), so I couldn’t be more excited to take advantage of everything Paradise Valley has to offer. If you ever need a hiking or running buddy or someone to just plain act a fool with on the dance floor, I’m more than happy to join ya! Cannot wait to meet everyone and serve the awesome guests of Mountain Sky.
Sabrina Bradford (Wrangler) – This will be my first summer at Mountain Sky, and my fourth year guiding within the greater Yellowstone ecosystem. I could not be more excited to be joining the team! Over the past ten years I have been lucky enough to work on working cattle and bison ranches, guest ranches, and horse packing outfits in five different states across the Rocky Mountain West. When I'm not guiding in the mountains, I have another life as a disease ecologist and anthropologist and I am currently attending graduate school at the University of Colorado in Boulder. I fell in love with guiding because it allows me to combine my passion for learning and teaching with my passion for horses and the outdoors. I cannot wait to share this amazing country with all of you!
Sedona Anderson (Guest Services) – Hey everyone! This will be my first summer at Mountain Sky and I couldn't be more excited. I grew up in southern Minnesota and am pursuing a degree in marketing and communications at the University of St. Thomas. When I'm not in school I love doing anything and everything outside, but hiking and horseback riding are my favorites. I also love drawing, painting, and photography. I can't wait to spend my summer in one of the most beautiful places on earth getting to know you all. See you at the ranch!
Shaefer Bergo (Guest Services) – Hey everyone! This will be my first summer at the ranch and I’m extremely excited to meet all of you. I grew up in Minnesota, and am currently finishing up my junior year at St. John’s University in central Minnesota. I love to spend my time fishing, hunting, camping, or drinking a beer around the fire with friends. Living in Montana has been a dream of mine for a long time, and I can’t wait to see what adventures this summer brings.
Shelby Pritchard (Guest Services) – Hello all! I am beyond thrilled to experience my first season at the ranch. I was born and raised in Iowa and am currently finishing up my masters degree in entomology at Iowa State University. If anyone has any questions about insects, feel free to ask me! In my spare time I enjoy fishing, exploring nature, collecting insects (surprise!), and creating memories with my family and friends. I can't wait to begin this new journey and make some new friends along the way!
Tabitha Nieuwsma (Guest Services) – Hi there! I am so excited to be starting my first season at Mountain Sky and meeting new friends! I am born and raised in Washington State on a small country farm. I love all things outdoor and can’t wait to come back to the beauty of Montana. Outdoor recreation is something I’m passionate about and currently getting a degree in. Outside of school I love camping, sports, finding a good book, and most of all spending time with my four legged friends, April (horse) and Scout (Dog). Living close to Mt. Baker, I spend a bit of time on the mountain snowboarding in the winter and kayaking on the lakes in the summer. I’m thrilled to be spending this summer with amazing new people at the ranch. See you around!
Talon Peterson (Wrangler) – Hey there everyone! This is my first year as a wrangler at Mountain Sky and I'm excited to be a part of the team! I'm a born and raised Idahoan and I grew up farming potatoes and raising beef. For as long as I can remember, I've been riding horses and loving every second I get to be around one. I'm currently working on a degree in animal science and will be enjoying this break from classes in the mountains! I look forward to meeting you!
Tawnya Rupe (Fund Director) – This is my 19th season at Mountain Sky! My husband and I recently started our own cattle and hay operation in Wilsall, northeast of Livingston in the Crazy Mountains. I coordinate the community giving for the ranch and enjoy working with our non-profit partners. You can learn more about our partnerships in the community in your in-room packet.
Taylor Petersen (Assistant Golf Superintendent) – I work down at the golf course, spending quality time with my Dad Mike Petersen (Golf Superintendent). This is my seventh season at Mountain Sky, and it has been such a wonderful experience. I hope you will come down and visit us!
Theresa Duffy (Wrangler) – Welcome to Mountain Sky! I'm thrilled to be returning for another season of great rides, stunning scenery, and amazing food. I'm looking forward to seeing all the returning staff and guests who've also become my friends. As well, I'm excited to meet some new guests and "wow" them with the beauty of this place I call home.
Tyler Lang (Guest Services) – I am thrilled to be on board for my first summer at the Mountain Sky Guest Ranch! I grew up surrounded by the many lakes and forests of rural Maine, so I have a real soft spot for the outdoors. When I am not in class at the University of Maine I enjoy doing any activity there is, whether that may be a wilderness backpacking journey or a nice board game by the fire. I hope to help in any way as you and your family have the experience of a lifetime. I’ll also mention that if you’re looking for the proper way to clean and enjoy a lobster I’m your guy!
Whitney Lane (Basecamp Manager) – This is my third summer working for Mountain Sky and the Blank Family Foundation. Raised in Flagstaff, Arizona, I graduated from Northern Arizona University with a BS in elementary education and a strong desire to experience the ski-bum lifestyle. That desire took me all over the Southwest for five years until I landed here in Montana. I knew immediately I had found somewhere I could call home. During those adventures, I discovered the challenge course industry, which fulfilled my desire to learn and teach through experiential education. In my off-time, you may run into me riding my mountain bike, climbing, or fishing. I am always up for an adventure and love to travel and spend time with friends new and old. I look forward to this summer being the best yet, and hope to see you down at the Big Creek Challenge Course!
Whitney Tilt (Lands & Wildlife) – I have been fortunate to work with the Mountain Sky crew to make our ranch operations “best in class” – for the land, wildlife, and the people. I also work in the larger community with ranchers and other residents tackling some of the region’s larger issues like water, access to public lands, and wildlife management. If you have any questions about natural history, land management, or anything outdoors, I’m here to help.
Wilder Ethridge (Grounds and Maintenance) – Hey y’all. I am from Lexington, South Carolina. I am currently in my junior year at Clemson University where I study agriculture mechanization and business. This is my first summer at Mountain Sky and I could not be more excited. I am an avid outdoorsman so I cannot wait to utilize all of the awesome opportunities the great state of Montana has to offer. When I am not outside, I usually spend my time playing guitar or just hanging out with friends. I couldn’t be more excited about meeting all of our guest and I look forward to spending some time with everyone. So if you ever want to go catch some trout or just hang out in the saloon I would be happy to join you.
Will Stevens (Guest Services) – Howdy y’all! Hailing from the rolling hills of Austin, Texas, I cannot wait to experience time in the mountains of Montana with you this summer! This will be my first summer at Mountain Sky and I’m excited to get to know you as we ride horses, fly fish, and simply enjoy the beauty of Paradise Valley. I grew up in Texas but have traveled all over the world, living in Hong Kong, Nashville, and currently South Carolina! I am a junior at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, with hopes of going to medical school afterwards. I love doing anything outside, from mountain biking to fly fishing to sky diving. I’m looking forward to spending a week with you and showing off everything that Mountain Sky has to offer!
