"Best of all he loved the fall
The leaves yellow on the cottonwood trees,
The leaves floating in the trout streams,
and above the hills.
The high blue windless skies..."

-passage from Gene Van Guilder's eulogy for Ernest Hemingway

Montana touted as, "the last best place" is at its best from mid September through mid October.  The cottonwood and aspen yellow, the hills and river bottoms are splendidly arrayed in fall colors.  Mornings are frosty and the air is crisp.  The hills are alive with the music of bugling bull elk.  The Big Sky is often azure blue and windless.  Afternoons are warm and the native prairie, wheat and barley stubble are tawny and gold in the late afternoon light.

The Sportsman's Getaway will provide hunting for Ringneck Pheasants and Hungarian Partridge over stylish well trained English Setters and Pointers.

"You'll hunt with Kevin Edwards and David Kirkland, who are gentlemen, PHD level upland bird hunters and dog men of the highest order.  Their setters and pointers are stylish, experienced bird finding machines that point, back (honor point) and retrieve to hand.  Speaking from experience, I have had the distinct pleasure of hunting 20 days a year over Kevin and Dave's dogs for the last 8 years.  Their dogs are beautiful and classy who know their business and know it well.

"The Yellowstone River and the Paradise Valley spring creeks are world renown for their excellent brown, rainbow and cutthroat trout fishing.  The Yellowstone affords one a strong possibility of landing a "Montana Grand Slam" by catching all three species of trout plus a Rocky Mountain Whitefish in the same day.  In October Brown Trout are moving up Montana's rivers to spawn; they are territorial, aggressive and fall is the best time to catch a BIG honker brown.

"After your day afield you'll return to a comfortable well appointed mountain cabin and experience the essence of western hospitality.  Elegant & Luxurious are words that describe the Mountain Sky Guest Ranch dining experience of 3 to 5 course meals served with selected wines tailored to accentuate the entree.
